Why people look for an alternative to Voice Dream Reader

1. 1The subscription never ends. Voice Dream Reader is $79.99 a year after the trial, so two years cost more than eight times the one-time $19.99 that unlocks Local TTS Pro permanently.
2. 2There is no free tier. Apple's listing states that a subscription is required to access the app and that new users get a free trial; the sign-up page offers seven days. Local TTS stays usable for free after that — 500 characters per note, four voices, and camera OCR included.

Voice Dream Reader's App Store privacy label lists Identifiers and Usage Data as "used to track you", its privacy policy names Google Analytics, Amplitude, and Mixpanel for analytics and Google Ads and Facebook Ads for remarketing, and it states that the service does not respond to Do Not Track signals. Local TTS is labelled Data Not Collected.

• The free plan stays. Reading 500 characters at a time, with camera OCR, costs nothing for as long as you want it.
• Speech stays on the device on both sides — but so does everything else. Local TTS has no account, no ads, and no analytics; the only sync is your own iCloud.
• You lose the Mac app, the Apple Watch app, and the Safari extension. Local TTS is iPhone and iPad, and only that.
