Help with Local TTS

Local TTS runs entirely on your iPhone, which rules out a whole class of problems: there is no server to be down, no account to be locked out of, and no quota to run out mid-chapter. Here is what to check for the things that do come up.

Reading stops partway through a note

The free plan reads up to 500 characters per note, so a longer note stops at that point rather than failing. Pro removes the limit. If you have already bought Pro and it is not recognised, restoring purchases from the App Store re-applies it — the purchase is tied to your Apple Account, not to any Local TTS account.

A PDF imports but no text comes out

Some PDFs are page images rather than text — a scan, or a book photographed page by page. There is nothing for the importer to extract. Photograph the page with the camera instead and on-device OCR will read the text off it. Full multi-page PDF import is a Pro feature.

A note is missing on my other device

Sync is optional and uses your own private iCloud account, so both devices need to be signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive turned on. Speech generation stays on the device either way — sync only moves the notes.

Still stuck?

Email us with your iOS version and the kind of file you were reading. There is no account for us to look up, so we will only know what you tell us.
