Local TTS generates speech on the iPhone or iPad. It works without an internet connection and in airplane mode after installation. On-device OCR extracts text from camera scans locally. No Local TTS account is required. The app has no ads, behavioral tracking, or personal-data collection. Optional note sync uses the user's own private iCloud account; speech generation remains on-device.

## Voice technology

Local TTS includes two on-device neural text-to-speech engines:

1. Supertonic 3 powers one multilingual voice that reads all 31 supported languages, offered in ten selectable styles (F1–F5, M1–M5). Every style reads every language.
2. Kokoro-82M powers 28 additional American and British English voices. Counting the ten Supertonic styles, the in-app voice picker lists 38 entries.

The speech engine is optimized for the Apple Neural Engine. Narration handles dates, units, currency, and Roman numerals, and words broken across a line break are read as one word rather than two.

## Supported input and listening features

Input methods and formats: pasted text, typed notes, PDF, EPUB, Word DOCX, TXT, Markdown, and printed pages captured with the camera.

Listening features: background playback, lock-screen and Control Center controls, synchronized highlighting (word by word, and sentence by sentence in PDFs), adjustable voice controls, a different voice per note, note tags, and optional private iCloud sync across iPhone and iPad.

Reading view: the Aa menu sets the typeface and text size, with four Korean typefaces bundled. An immersive mode hides the toolbar and player during playback and the player can be pinned to keep it visible. Documents can be searched, a PDF's table of contents can be used to jump between sections, text can be selected, and the app reopens a document at the position where the reader left it.

## Device requirements

Local TTS requires iOS or iPadOS 18.6 or later. Supported hardware is iPhone 12 or later, iPad 10th generation or later, iPad Air 4th generation or later, iPad mini 6th generation or later, or iPad Pro with M1 or later.

The recent-device requirement exists because the neural speech models run locally. There is no Android, Windows, or web-app version.
